Boating is a blast. Almost anyone who has been out on the water, no matter what kind of boat they were in, would have a hard time saying they didn’t have fun. But in order to navigate your boat and run any appliances or accessories you may need a power generator. If you think you can get away with any old power generator, think again. You will need a marine power generator, which is designed for life at sea.
A marine power generator is usually of a much higher quality than one that may be used on land. It is built with materials that are extremely non-corrosive since it must withstand the salty air of the sea. The insulation used in a marine generator is usually class H, which is probably the best insulation. It can withstand greater temperatures and will boost generator life by thousands upon thousands of hours. A marine generator is also specifically built to run appliances and equipment on a boat.
Speaking of equipment, appliances, and other accessories… It isn’t completely necessary to have a generator in order to run your VHF radio or radar. However, if you are going to run a fish finder, a refrigerator, a chartplotter, autopilot, and an air conditioner then you are going to need some help. If you don’t get a generator then you will kill your battery. As you can imagine, this wouldn’t be a good thing. You could end up stranded.
This brings us to yet another important reason to have a marine generator. If your battery dies, then you can get it going again with a battery charger. In fact, even if your battery doesn’t die, you can keep it in good health by recharging it on a regular basis. This is incredibly imperative if you are on an extended journey.
To recap, you need to have a marine power generator because:
1. A normal power generator used on dry land isn’t built for life at sea. A marine generator is a machine of a higher quality and is built to be around water.
2. You need to have a sufficient power supply to run all of your navigation equipment, appliances, and other accessories.
3. You need to have a way to recharge your battery in case it dies and so you can maintain its health.
With a marine power generator you can enjoy your time at sea more. You won’t have to worry about power because you will have plenty. Just make sure that the generator you get will support all of your power needs. Also make sure that you stow it well and that you have plenty of fuel to run it. Do that and your fun will increase tenfold and so will your comfort.
