YachtradarWhat is better than watching the big game on TV with a bunch of friends, eating snacks, and having some tasty drinks? How about doing all of that while floating out on the ocean? That’s right. In our world of technology we have the power to watch TV practically anywhere, including the ocean or any other body of water. All you need is a television and a satellite that can pick up a signal.

There are other reasons to have satellite TV on your boat than watching sports. You can get weather reports and keep up with the news or stock market. If you have a bunch of children aboard that get bored by all the water, then you will have a safe way of keeping them entertained. You won’t have to worry about them falling overboard or getting in the way of the crew either if they have something to watch. Satellite TV is also great if you live in a houseboat where you can’t get cable hooked up.

Getting it all set up isn’t difficult and neither is tuning in the channels. Once you have the satellite bolted down and wired into your television, all you need is a clear view of the southern sky. With no trees or buildings on the water, getting a clear view of the southern sky is pretty easy. If the signal isn’t clear, you can adjust the receiver by remote until you lock in a signal.

But you don’t need to worry much about which service you subscribe to because most marine satellites pick up the majority of DVB compatible services. Dish Network, Direct TV and Dish 500 are just some of the many names that work with marine satellite TV.

What is even better is that on top of getting hundreds of channels to watch, you can also get Internet. That way you can check your email and keep up with what your friends are doing on social networking sites. If you work online, then you can work while you are at sea on vacation if you want to!

All marine satellites are waterproof and weatherproof, so you don’t need to worry much about wear and tear. They are easy to use and a nice luxury to have. Nearly all of them have GPS built in so that you can get your satellite link up faster. Plus, if you get a portable marine satellite you can take it home with you when you’re done boating. Then, you can take the satellite tailgating, camping, or wherever you want to go.

Of course, nothing is free. There is a price to pay for the satellite and the service, but it is totally worth the cost. You can relax and be cut off from the world and still check in from time to time just by pushing a button. Or you can drop anchor for the evening, put your feet up and watch a movie. Marine satellite TV is yet another way to have a blast while out at sea.
