There is another application for GPS that most people don’t think about. Many EPIRBs have GPS capabilities, and it has saved many lives. When a ship goes down or is capsized, everyone must get into life rafts and wait for help. An EPIRB broadcasts a signal with the information about where it is. Search and Rescue teams can sometimes find a life raft within hours thanks to these beacons.

Technology is truly amazing, and GPS is no exception. It has been making life easier both on land and water. It has helped people find their way when they’ve been lost, helped them stay on course, helped them find fish easier, and it has even helped save lives.
